Nurturing football

For a country like India with an enviable demographic dividend, football or any other sport in general, still remains an opportunity grossly underutilised (OpEd page – ‘Yes, No, It’s Complicated’, “Can Indian football make it to the top league”, June 29). Cultivating the right aptitude for the game, from school, by making sports a mandatory subject in the curriculum is the key. Infrastructural support through district-level ‘mentor clubs’ can help a great deal. There also has to be a change in mindset to one that sees sports as an essential prerequisite to a healthy life.
