Not unfounded

Ananya Vajpeyi is being too harsh in saying that the claim that there were cars and planes in ancient India is ridiculous (“ >The story of my Sanskrit,” Aug. 16). She must have surely heard of Zecharia Sitchin who proposed an explanation of human origin involving ancient astronauts. She should read the book Chariots of the Gods by Erich Von Daniken, which has talked of the “ancient alien theory.”

I am not supporting the existence of cars and planes in ancient India but it is not the pro-Sanskrit people alone who profess the existence of vimanas. We have the Annunakis who believe they descended from the skies by planes.

Let us not forget the ‘Baghdad batteries’ and the Antikythera mechanism which archaeologists call the most ancient computer-like device ever found.
