What was Narendra Kumar killed for (“Honesty can get you killed,” March 10)? For doing what all policemen are supposed to do? I am a civil services aspirant and incidents like Narendra Kumar's killing deal a severe blow to my confidence.
I am sure many others, who believe that they will contribute to the remodelling of India for the better, are also disheartened. The government and civil servants should work together and create strong checks that can act as deterrents to anti-social elements.

The killing of the young IPS officer by the mining mafia in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, has once again shown us how powerful such mafias are in our country. With money, muscle and political power, they can do almost anything. Narendra Kumar should be the last person to be killed by the mafia.

The killing of Narendra Kumar is part of a psychological war waged by vested interests against honest citizens. The fear of physical threat, coupled with delayed justice, is the most powerful weapon to muffle the voices of the honest. It deters many from joining the public service domain, leaving it for the corrupt to hijack.
