Normalisation of hate

November 02, 2019 12:15 am | Updated 12:15 am IST

The Pehlu Khan case, where the victims were charge sheeted and the accused acquitted, speaks volumes about the hate that has been sown into the minds of a section of the majority community, under the euphemism of cow vigilantism and cow protection ( Editorial, “Relief for Pehlu’s sons,” Nov. 1). From the murder of Mohammed Akhlaq in September 2015 in Dadri following which an FIR was filed against the victim and his kin, to instances like the Bulandshahr violence which resulted in the death of Inspector Subodh Singh, there have been many such incidents in the recent part where the law and order machinery has acted against the principles of natural justice and targeted the victims. The Rajasthan government should now set a new example by initiating a trial against the accused in Pehlu Khan’s murder.
