Noble gesture

The decision of the Municipal Corporation of Karimnagar to perform the last rites of those the dead, obviously from an impoverished background, incurring all expenses, is a noble gesture that all local bodies across the country must try and emulate (“A humane solemn gesture to the dead in Karimnagar”, May 21). It is an acknowledgement that there are still people living in destitution. Anyone would feel good with the foreknowledge that his or her last rites would be conducted in a dignified manner. This can be in addition to community support.
