The manner in which students were roughed up at Delhi University’s North campus by members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has once again brought to light the attack on democratic values and the intolerance towards dissent even in secular spaces such as universities and colleges (“DU on edge after attack on students”, Feb.23). It is disheartening to know that the JNU PhD scholar, Umar Khalid, had to cancel his visit to speak at a seminar at DU. The Delhi police reportedly said they can’t protect Mr. Khalid. Why can’t the police control mob attacks? The whole episode must be probed and action should be taken against the guilty.
