Looking ahead

March 20, 2019 12:00 am | Updated 12:00 am IST

The office of the Lokpal will have to be insulated from political pressure and not be treated as a post-retirement benefit or misused to accommodate political veterans. Most importantly, it must be provided with the flexibility to constitute independent investigation teams without mirroring what happens to the CBI, well-known to be a caged parrot. Without appropriate autonomy and authority, the Lokpal will be mired in controversies (Editorial, “Lokpal, at last”, March 19).
