This refers to the editorial “Bharadwaj has to go” (May 18). Right from day one, Governor H.R. Bhardwaj has been behaving like an agent of the Centre, assigned to the State to unsettle the BJP government. In the process, he has systematically destroyed well laid-out democratic traditions. His blatantly partisan actions have denied the State a chance at fair governance.

On two occasions, Mr. Bhardwaj made the ill-advised move to dissolve the Karnataka Assembly. It is against the spirit of the Constitution. Trying to oust an elected Chief Minister by hook or by crook is unwarranted.

The Governor should have called for a floor test. Instead, he sent a flawed report recommending President's rule in the State. He has ceased to be an umpire and has virtually become a player.

What a colossal waste of public money, with ruling party MLAs travelling to New Delhi and back to prove their majority before the President. If the Governor thought the BJP government did not enjoy a majority support, he should have asked for a floor test, rather than act in an impulsive manner.
