Himalayan belt quake

September 27, 2011 11:51 pm | Updated 11:51 pm IST

I was in Germany when the earthquake of 6.8 magnitude devastated a part of the Himalayan belt resulting in death and ruin. With little news forthcoming, I relied on The Hindu's online edition for updates. While other “mainstream” media devoted minimal space, especially on the post-earthquake relief operations, in contrast, The Hindu's overall coverage was indeed laudable. It certainly helped bridge the distance between New Delhi and the “far-flung” northeast.
