Hi-tech education

Prof. Krishna Kumar’s article “The Perils of e-fixation” (Oct.15) has cautioned administrators not to dispense with teachers in a classroom. As someone who has had a good exposure in the preparation of such material for primary school children, I can honestly say that we never intended to displace the teacher. We were more interested in equipping the teacher to be current in the topic as children of today are more exposed to e-learning materials than their teacher. Learning involves the activation of sensory and auditory faculties in human memory. Any effective teacher can teach only students who are listening. In the days of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in the field of higher education, can we allow school students to lag behind?
