Finding ‘lost’ Urdu


In an environment where Urdu is often perceived to be connected only with Muslims or to Pakistan, the short article, “Urdu and patriotism” (“Single File”, April 25), was an eye-opener. Impressive was the reference to poet Iqbal’s argument that “Indians must shed their differences and build temples dedicated to India than to a particular deity”. This is relevant even in today’s world. Human bonding is the most powerful and beautiful way for our country to progress to the heights it can but has held itself back from.
