Federer the best

July 12, 2012 11:42 pm | Updated 11:42 pm IST

Roger Federer’s seventh Wimbledon crown has brought him triple success — he has drawn level with the legendary Pete Sampras’ record of seven Wimbledon titles, reclaimed the No. 1 ranking and become the unmatched holder of 17 grand slam titles (“Thundering thirties,” July 10). This is an extraordinary achievement by an extraordinary player. Roger, an ageless and graceful champion, is easily the best thing that has happened to the game of tennis. The never-say-die Serena Williams’ range and aggression have got her the fifth Wimbledon title. The doubles title she has won along with her sister Venus is the icing on the cake.
