This refers to the goof-up in the preparation of the list of 50 ‘most wanted fugitives' — which includes the name of Wazhul Khan who is in Thane —submitted to Pakistan two months ago. In fact, Khan has claimed that he has never been to Pakistan. While we do not know who will ultimately be held accountable for the lapse, what we do know is that we have made a fool of ourselves in the eyes of Pakistan.

‘The goof-up in the list of most wanted terrorists who Pakistan is allegedly sheltering is indeed embarrassing, when one of them is living in a Mumbai suburb. Pakistan can now justifiably continue to deny the presence of terrorists on its soil and continue its proxy war against India. Generally, lower level officials are made scapegoats for such incidents. But in this sensitive case, responsibility should be fixed on the higher-ups.

The goof-up reminds me of George W. Bush's style. Mr. Bush's goof-ups were not merely embarrassing, they were lethal — like his search for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
