Battle for Syria

October 09, 2015 12:47 am | Updated 12:47 am IST

Syria has suffered because it has served as a buffer zone between Israel and Iran (“ >Russia backs Syria forces in major assault on insurgents ,” Oct.8). The way NATO and Russia are dividing Syria between an Islamic State (IS) zone, a regime zone and a rebel zone, it looks like the country will soon splinter into three parts. Each part will need its own share of weapons which Russia and the U.S. will be in the best position to supply. Once the rebuilding of these splinter nations starts, a major share of development work will be handed out to companies from the U.S. and the European Union (EU). Syrian people will be the ones who suffer.
