App-based taxi firms

While it is right to say that the “old order” must change itself according to emerging technologies, the fact is that “new technology” must also comply with basic rules and regulations. Unfortunately, despite being a convenient option, app-based taxi services are often on the wrong side of the law (Editorial, June 6). For example, Court orders stipulate that only CNG-run cabs can ply in Delhi, but most app-based taxi services are registered under the “All India Tourist Permit” and bear the registration numbers of neighbouring States.
