The Madras High Court’s refusal to grant any interim relief to the DMK, which challenged the manner in which the voting was conducted, is correct (“HC asks DMK to produce video footage of floor test”, Feb.23). The DMK attempted to cash in on the public’s anger towards V.K. Sasikala; hence the protests in the Assembly. But the party cannot act innocent as its MLAs’ violent behaviour in the Assembly deserves censure. The Speaker is well within his rights to decide the voting procedure. No member can adopt violence in the House and force the Speaker to change his decision. The party could have easily earned a good image had its members conducted themselves appropriately and allowed the floor test, irrespective of the result.
