Summer depression

If Vitamin D deficiency is galloping in India it is primarily because the workforce is increasingly becoming desk-bound (Open Page – “Summer depression, is it for real?”, July 5). With an improved standard of living and where the use of personal transportation is the norm, there is hardly any exposure to sunlight. This deficiency needs to be treated seriously especially in women as they may be prone to osteoporosis due to a lack of this vitamin. Food laws should also be amended to introduce foods fortified with Vitamin D.
