The brutal beheading of two Sikhs in the restive tribal belt of Pakistan is a clear indication that the minority community is not safe in the country.

It is time the Indian government used coercive diplomacy to bring pressure on the Pakistani establishment to fulfil its obligations towards the minorities.

The beheading of two Sikhs abducted by the Taliban underscores the heightened vulnerability of the minorities in areas where the militia is in control. Parliament should not only condemn the incident in one voice but also send a strong signal to the world community that it expects political pressure to be exercised on Pakistan to ensure that such brutalities do not take place.

Talibani extremism has plunged Swat, areas of the North-West Frontier Province and large swathes of north-eastern Afghanistan into an era of darkness. The Taliban is nothing but a bunch of uncouth youth who have no knowledge of Islam. They are, in fact, defaming the wonderful religion. These crude and misguided people cannot be called Muslims.
