Ministerial splurge

September 10, 2009 03:46 am | Updated 03:46 am IST

This refers to the news item “Krishna, Tharoor check out of hotels” (Sept. 9). Although the Ministers were meeting the expenses out of their own funds, it speaks of the luxurious lifestyle of Ministers who represent a society, a majority of whom cannot afford two square meals a day.

K. Ravindranathan,

Palakkad

***

It is good to see that the External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna and his junior Shashi Tharoor vacated their luxurious hotel suites. The Ministers may have paid the hefty hotel bill by themselves but they should set an example to others.

K.P. Ashok Kumar,

Thiruvananthapuram

***

Had the stay been warranted because of non-availability of suitable housing, it should have been allowed for a minimal period. The ministers cannot be held responsible for the forced expenditure.

B. Ramesh Babu,

Secunderabad
