Authentic journalism

The Hindu has yet again lived up to its image as the conscience keeper of the nation. It has once more proved to be the nation's icon of authentic and vigilant journalism. I applaud your efforts towards nailing the culprits who, by resorting to the most brazen lies, appeared to be unabashedly ridiculing the death of more than 25,000 innocent people and the permanent physical incapacitation of several lakhs of citizens wrought on the country by the infamous Bhopal gas tragedy. I am sure the nation, that was indignant over the casual way in which the culprits of one of the most heinous crimes of our times were dealt with, felt vindicated on seeing the report and the editorial in The Hindu 's edition dated 26.6.2010. I can only say hats-off to your timeliness, vigilance and unfailing mechanism of archiving.

Ramoji Rao,

Hyderabad

Your editorial exposes the apathy and callousness of governments for more than 25 years and expresses great concern for the victims. It also boldly repudiates the GoM report which tries to cover up the drama of Warren Andersen's arrest and release. To make amends for all the gullible failures of the past, the government will do well to redress the genuine grievances of the affected and their progeny expeditiously, whatever the cost.

Y.S. Kadakshamani,

Madurai

The contradictory reports of the GoM on the Bhopal gas tragedy cast doubts whether it has been constituted to address all the ‘relevant issues' of the tragedy or to engage in a cover-up exercise to save the image of a party and its leaders. It has been proved that when it is the question of party or people, the former becomes the priority of our leaders. Thanks to The Hindu for its timely expose.

T.R. Nandakumar,

Tiruninravur

It is quite obvious that the Rajiv Gandhi-P.V. Narasimha Rao-Arjun Singh trio arranged for the safe passage of Anderson. Why should there be an attempt to cover it up? The Congress hierarchy always goes over board to defend a few who, according to its high command, can do no wrong. The GoM should have been gutsy to own up the lapse.

J.V. Reddy,

Nellore
