1. EWS verdict | DMK files review petition at SC

A month after the Supreme Court upheld the 10% reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS) on November 7, DMK which fought the case has now moved review petition in the Supreme Court.

The ruling party which is in strong opposition against the reservation termed the verdict as a setback for century-old fight for social justice.

Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin chaired an all-party meeting on the issue on November 12, which was boycotted by the AIADMK and BJP. A resolution was passed at the meeting to file a review petition.

Amidst resistance for the project from residents, the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (TIDCO) has called for a consultant to prepare a new masterplan for Chennai’s second airport proposed at Parandur village in Kancheepuram district.

The consultant will also prepare a Detailed Techno Economic Report.

3. Kallakurichi schools reopen 145 days after mob violence

Physical classes resumed for students of classes 9 to 12 of the Sakthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Sakthi ECR International School at Kaniyamoor of Kallakurichi district after 145 days since mob violence erupted on July 17, following the death of a class XII girl student.

The schools reopened partially following the Madras High Court direction.

District Collector Sravan Kumar Jatavath said security arrangements had been put in place. Over 30 police personnel led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police have been deployed on the premises for security.

On the occasion of the sixth death anniversary of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, AIADMK leaders paid homage at her memorial in Chennai.

The party’s interim general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, deposed leader O. Panneerselvam, AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran and Jayalalithaa’s close aide V.K. Sasikala paid their tributes separately.

Mr. Palaniswami who administered a pledge called upon party cadre to strive for the return of the party to power. Apart from political adversaries, “traitors” would be crushed, he said.
