Mumbai reports India’s first case of Omicron’s XE recombinant variant

The XE variant is a mutation of the BA.1 and BA.2 Omicron strains, referred to as a “recombinant”. As per the initial studies, the XE variant has a growth rate of 9.8% over that of BA.2, also known as the stealth variant because of its ability to evade detection.

On BJP foundation day, PM Modi cautions party members against dynastic politics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose his address to BJP workers and leaders on the party’s foundation day to assert that dynastic parties were the “biggest enemies” of democracy and that the BJP, in marked contrast, stood for devotion to the country rather than a family.

971 people died while cleaning sewers since 1993

Replying to a question by BJP’s Syed Zafar Islam in the Rajya Sabha, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister of State Ramdas Athawale’s written response showed that Tamil Nadu accounted for 214 of the 971 “sewer deaths”, the highest in the country. Gujarat reported 156 such deaths and Uttar Pradesh 106, the data said. In 703 cases, ₹10 lakh as compensation had been paid to the families of the victims, and in 136, an amount of less than ₹10 lakh was given.

87 civilians, 99 security personnel killed in J&K since abrogation of Article 370: Government

As many as 177 civilians and 406 security personnel were killed from May 2014 to August 4, 2019 in Jammu and Kashmir, while 87 civilians and 99 security personnel were killed from August 5, 2019 to November 2021, the government has informed the Rajya Sabha.
