Congress wants Rahul Gandhi to be the face of anti-BJP alliance

The extended Congress Working Committee on July 22 authorised Congress president Rahul Gandhi to forge an alliance with like-minded parties for the 2019 Lok Sabha election to take on the BJP. The decision was taken at a meeting of the newly-constituted CWC, Pradesh Congress Committee chiefs and Congress Legislature Party members from various States.

Three militants killed in encounter in Kulgam

Security forces killed three militants in an operation in south Kashmir's Kulgam on Sunday morning. The militants were believed to be behind the abduction and killing of a policeman on Saturday.

40% deficit rainfall in eastern India: IMD data

With the four-month rainy season almost half over, the rainfall deficiency in the eastern part of India, especially in Bihar and Jharkhand, has crossed the 40% mark, while a quarter of the country has received deficient rainfall, the India Meteorological Department data shows. Bihar has recorded the highest monsoon deficiency of 48%, while eastern  Uttar Pradesh  and Jharkhand have recorded 46% and 42% respectively.
