The Cauvery continued to be in spate on Monday with the Mettur dam recording over 50,000 cubic feet per second (cusecs) inflow.
At 8 p.m., the dam level stood at 90 ft (full level120 ft) and storage, 52.6 thousand million cubic feet (capacity 93.47 tmcft). The inflow was around 50,900 cusecs. Discharge through the river has been suspended in view of rain in the Cauvery delta.
For the last one week or so, Mettur has been getting heavy inflow due to the release of surplus flows from the Krishnarajasagar dam in Karnataka and rainfall in the catchment between Mettur and KRS and Kabini dams.
During October, the State realised around 25 tmcft against its share of 30 tmcft as per the interim order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal. In the first week of this month, the realisation was around 19 tmcft. Against the prescribed quantity of about 171 tmcft for the period of water year that lapsed since June 1, the total realisation was about 105 tmcft, a shortfall of 66 tmcft.
