Over 100 academicians from Goa and neighbouring States will take part in a seminar organised by the State government and Sahitya Akademi to celebrate the silver jubilee of the inclusion of Konkani language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, on February 18 and 19.
A seminar will review the literacy and linguistic scenario of Konkani after its inclusion in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution from 1992, and will decide on the future course of action for the enrichment of Konkani language and literature.
Apart from Goans writers, researchers and academics, Konkani speaking writers and intellectuals from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and other States will deliberate in a session called ‘Eighth Schedule and Konkani with respect to Karnataka, Kerala and Maharashtra’.
Writer Payyanur Ramesh Pai, the former chairman of the Kerala Konkani Sahitya Akademi, will preside over the session. Several papers will be published by writers Melwyn Rodrigues, Valley Quadros and Paul Morais.
