Over 50 members of families evicted from Valankulam on Tuesday staged a protest demanding allocation of residential units of Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board.

They said that 320 families evicted from the banks of Valankualam some two years ago have not received any residential unit as promised by the government.

They assembled near their houses at Valankulam around 8 a.m.

They said that 720 families have been allocated residential units of Slum Clearance Board at Ammankulam. The others have been asked to wait till the works on new buildings at Ukkadam is over.

Though around 1,200 units are vacant at the Slum Clearance Board project at Vellalore, we have been asked to wait till the project at Ukkadam was completed. We are now living in rented houses,” they said.
