Senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar said on Friday that the Maharashtra government was scared of sending tankers to drought-hit villages in the State as it would expose the loopholes in Jalyukt Shivar, its flagship water conservation scheme and the Chief Minister’s pet project.

Mr. Pawar was speaking at the party’s Parivartan rally at Chalisgaon in Jalgaon district. He said the ‘water wars’ predicted by environmentalists could soon be a reality. Mr. Pawar also censured the Chief Minister for his ‘hollow promises’ on the farm loan waiver scheme. He said unlike NCP chief Sharad Pawar, the BJP government could not feel the pulse of the farmers. He said, “If Sharad Pawar were the Union Agriculture Minister today, then Maharashtra’s farmers would not be in such dire straits.”

NCP leader Dhananjay Munde said during the PM Narendra Modi’s tenure, scams amounting to ₹90,000 crore by the BJP-Shiv Sena government had come to the fore. He said, “In 2014, the youth were hailing Modi…but today, the same youth are disgruntled and are venting their ire against the Prime Minister.”

NCP State chief Jayant Patil presented a short film on the discrepancy in the tall claims made by BJP leaders and the ground reality.
