Panaji: Amit Deshmukh, MLA and All India Congress Committee secretary, on Thursday said the Modi regime has failed on national security.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress headquarters, Mr. Deshmuk said, “They are going gaga over their rule of three years while our national security is in danger.”
“There are incidents such as Pampore, Uri, Pathankot, but the government does not seem to be looking into its failures. They are thumping their chest over their three years’ rule. TV studio warfare is going on, but situation at the border is alarming and internal security is at threat. There were 72 terror attacks in the last three years, 12 major terror attacks in the last 21 months, and civilian, policemen and army men are martyred, but there is no talk of guilt by the government,” said Mr. Deshmukh.
In reply to a question whether the government must engage in a dialogue to resolve the Kashmir situation, Mr. Deshmukh said certainly there must be a dialogue, but when asked pointedly if the government must have a dialogue with the separatists, he said, “With whom to engage in a dialogue must be the prerogative of the government.”
Mr. Deshmukh called the foreign policy a big flip-flop. “It was started with meet and greet with Pakistan and then China was upset. China opposed India linking Pakistan with terror. China joined hands with Pakistan. We lost the aid we were looking for in terms of economic bilateral relations.”
On the latest notification on cattle, Mr. Deshmukh said now that they have enacted that law, the government must come out with some alternative for the farmers. “I think gaushalas by the government must buy the old cattle from the farmers.”
