Maharashtra tourists attacked in Goa: 3 history sheeters held

Assault was fallout of altercation at hotel, say police; search on for fourth accused

Panaji: Three history sheeters were arrested for allegedly attacking tourists from Maharashtra at Merces on Wednesday morning. A search is on for the fourth accused.

According to the police, the tourists, including women and children, were travelling in a bus when, the accused, armed with swords and knives, blocked the road and attacked them over a tiff with one of the tourists earlier at a hotel. Driver Shivaji Shelke was severely injured, while many passengers, including a child, sustained minor injuries.

All injured were admitted to Goa Medical College Hospital.

A police complaint lodged by Lahu Yeshwant Ghodekar (58), Vasai, said Vishal Golatkar, Lawrence Dias, Ratikant Shetey alias Babu, and Sai Kundaikar, all from Merces, stopped their bus, snatched the key from the driver, pelted stones, and assaulted the tourists with deadly weapons.
