Highway project receives 627 petitions

Out of the 627 petitions received by the district administration in connection with the Chennai-Salem Greenfield Highway, 577 petitions objected to the project.

According to officials, the district administration and Special District Revenue Officer (Land Acquisition) have been receiving petitions from the public in connection with the project from June 19. Till July 9, they have received a total of 627 petitions. While 577 were objection petitions, 23 sought increased amount as compensation for their lands and 16 sought government jobs as compensation. Among the remaining petitions, two sought equal quantum of land in exchange.

Initially, the last date for receiving applications was July 9. But Collector K.S. Kandasamy has said that the public can submit petitions in connection with the project till July 25.

A major portion of the 277.30-kilometre-long Chennai-Salem Greenfield Highway is in Tiruvannamalai district. It will run for 123.90 km from Cheyyar to Neepathurai.
