Pune: Actor Anupam Kher, the newly-appointed chairman of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), entered the campus unannounced on Monday.

“I deliberately did not give prior information as I wanted to revisit my alma mater as a student like I did 40 years ago,” said the 62-year-old actor.

Mr. Kher had lunch with students in the canteen. He also met students from the 2016 batch in the main theatre and heard out their issues.

“I feel that the issues vexing students can be resolved. Some of the points raised are reasonable, and I will try to get the director sort them out. I believe that problems facing students in their learning in any institute ought to be addressed,” said Mr. Kher. He is expected to address the entire 2016 batch shortly and to hold a special class for acting students this week.

Soon after Mr. Kher’s appointment last week, FTII students, in an open letter, had drawn his attention to issues such as poor infrastructure, the new curriculum, and lack of permanent faculty members.
