The Nilgiris district administration and the police, held a discussion with local residents about proposed alterations to the Adam's Fountain at Charring Cross.
Though an iconic structure built in 1886, the barricades around the structure take up a lot of road space, said police officials. The discussion was about demolishing a section of the barricades, to provide more space for vehicles.
The proposed alterations to the structure would ensure that traffic is not affected during the summer festival season.
Local residents and activists opposed the plan, stating that any alteration would affect its heritage value.
Nilgiris District Collector, Innocent Divya, and District Superintendent of Police, Murali Rambha, took part in the discussion.
