Army, IAF join relief operations

The Army and the Air Force on Sunday swung into action joining rescue and relief operations at the train accident site in Malwan station on the Howrah-Delhi grand chord in Fathehpur.

Approximately, 100 Army personnel are providing relief to the victims at the accident site while the Air Force pressed two helicopters from Allahabad to evacuate casualties and reaching them to hospitals.

Army officials said here that its team established a surgical facility at Mawana. Five persons were rescued from the train. The Engineering Regiment is employing special cutting equipment to extricate people trapped inside the bogies.

Besides, medical teams from Kanpur and Allahabad comprising doctors and medical van are there to provide relief to the victims of the train accident, Group Captain Amit Mahajan, Defence Public Relations Officer, said in a release issued at Allahabad.
