Alleging that law and order situation has hit an all time low and even policemen are not safe in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party on Monday urged Governor B L Joshi to send a report in this connection to the Centre for initiating action against the state government.

In a statement issued here, Samajwadi Party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary, while citing Sunday’s gunning down of a constable deployed in the security of Chief Minister Mayawati, said that it has now been proved that not even policemen are safe in the state.

“The constable was shot dead near the CM’s official residence and DGP headquarters, which is a high security zone,” Mr. Chaudhary said .

The SP spokesman said the CM has kept the home portfolio with herself and has posted her favourite officials at key positions. Therefore, she is totally responsible for the deteriorating law and order.

“There is a constitutional crisis in the state and the Governor should immediately take necessary action against the Chief Minister,” Mr. Chaudhary added.
