Dozens of people opposing dog meat consumption, including American actress Kim Basinger, have rallied in Seoul to mark a “dog meat day” in South Korea. About 20 others stood on the opposite side calling for a legalisation of dog meat. There are no reports of violence. Under a traditional belief, Friday is the first of three hottest days in South Korea. Many South Koreans believe eating dog meat or chicken soups on those three days gives them strength to beat the heat. Basinger says, “We have to end this cruelty on this planet.” Dog meat is neither legal nor explicitly banned in South Korea. Dog meat restaurants are a dwindling business in South Korea in recent years.
Officials in the northern Spanish city of Pamplona say one person has been gored and five others injured in the sixth bull run of the 2019 San Fermin festival. The dash with six bulls along cobbled streets to Pamplona’s bullring Friday lasted 2 minutes and 18 seconds. Several bulls and dozens of runners slipped and fell on the 930-yard (850-meter) course. Four people two Americans and two Spaniards had already been gored since the daily races started on Sunday. The nine-day San Fermin fiesta draws thousands of revelers each year from around the world. Mostly wearing white with a red sash, they test their courage by running alongside and in front of six fighting bulls that are let loose through the city streets early in the morning.

The flight from Vancouver to Sydney encountered “un-forecasted and sudden turbulence,” about two hours past Hawaii when the plane diverted to Honolulu, Air Canada spokeswoman Angela Mah said in a statement. “The plane just dropped,” passenger Stephanie Beam told . “When we hit turbulence, I woke up and looked over to make sure my kids were buckled. The next thing I knew there’s just literally bodies on the ceiling of the plane.” A woman behind her hit the ceiling so hard that she broke the casing of an oxygen mask, said Beam, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Of the 37 passengers and flight crew members injured, nine had serious injuries, emergency responders said. Thirty people were taken to hospitals.
