More than 1.5 million people were ordered to evacuate their homes along the U.S. southeast coast as Hurricane Florence, the most powerful to menace the Carolinas in nearly three decades, barreled closer on Tuesday.

Hardik Patel's fast enters 18th day

The indefinite fast for quota for the Patidar community and farm loan waiver by the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader entered 18th day on Tuesday. Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat and a host of other leaders visited Mr. Patel. The Patidar leader was discharged from a hospital in Ahmeadbad on Sunday, but is continuing his hunger strike at home.

The death anniversary of freedom fighter and revolutionary poet Subramania Bharati, widely known as 'Mahakavi' Bharathiyar is observed across the country today. School children, elders and politicians paid tributes to the revolutionary poet on his 97th death anniversary on September 11, 2018.

As early as 1949, Subramania Bharathi achieved a rare distinction of his works being nationalised by the State government.

'Diamond' Ganesha

A Hubbali-based artist has created a unique Ganesha idol studded with nine types of American diamonds. Measuring over five feet, the Ganesha idol was crafted by Mahesh Muragod and is worth over Rs. 8.5 lakh. 

This 'diamond' Ganesha will be installed at Rajajinagar in Bengaluru.

Hundreds of people from several districts thronged the memorial of Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran in Paramakudi on Tuesday to on the occasion of his 61st death anniversary. Immanuel Sekaran, a Dalit leader from Sellur village in Mudukulathur,  was murdered on this day for fighting against social injustice meted out to Dalits. Immanuel Sekaran, worked as Havildar in the Indian Army and also participated in the Quit India Movement as a young freedom fighter. Immanuel Sekaran, as a youngster, returning from Army service sporting boots and a newly acquired moral economy, defied the existing norms and fought for making the Dalits as emancipated subjects.

Florence exploded into a potentially catastrophic Category 4 hurricane Monday as it closed in on North and South Carolina, carrying winds up to 140 mph (220 kph) and water that could wreak havoc over a wide stretch of the eastern United States later this week.

Jokowi is currently visiting to South Korea and met South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Monday. Mr. Moon asked his Indonesian counterpart on Monday to support efforts to achieve denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula. Indonesia has historical ties with North Korea. Indonesia’s first president, Sukarno, was a friend of North Korean founder Kim Il Sung, the grandfather of current ruler Kim Jong Un. The two, who shared a distrust of Western powers, established diplomatic ties in the 1950s.
