Turkey's Erdogan arrives in Germany

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Germany Thursday for a visit aimed at reducing tensions between the two NATO allies at a time when Turkey’s economic troubles are causing growing concerns and Europe needs Ankara’s support to keep down the flow of migrants.

 At least two militants were trapped in a mosque at Panzan, about 35 km south of Srinagar. Subsequently, Army troops laid a siege around it in the village, police said. As the siege continued, villagers tried to march towards the mosque in solidarity with the rebels, leading to clashes between stone-throwing protesters and government forces who deployed tear smoke shells and pellets.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi began a two-day visit to poll-bound Madhya Pradesh with prayers at the famous Kamta Nath temple in Satna district’s Chitrakoot town.

The Kamta Nath temple is located on the forested hill of Kamadgiri where, according to mythology, Lord Rama stayed during his exile.

The 48-year-old Amethi MP was accompanied by Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath, state party campaign committee chairman Jyotiraditya Scindia and Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh.

Hit by labour strife for the past few days, the managements of Royal Enfield and Yamaha have not been able to find an amicable solution to resume normal operations at their respective plants in Oragadam, off Chennai.

On Wednesday, talks between the labourers’ representatives and managements of the two companies before the Joint Labour Commissioner, Chennai, remained inconclusive.

Workers at the manufacturing plants of both firms have been on strike for a while over the issue of forming unions.

The over four-month old Congress-JD(S) ministry headed by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy would be expanded by October 10, Karnataka Pradesh Congress President Dinesh Gundu Rao said.

This would be the second expansion of the cabinet since the coalition came to power in May in a post-poll tie-up. In the earlier exercise on June 6, Mr. Kumaraswamy had inducted 25 ministers, taking the ministry’s strength to 27.

Real Madrid crashed and burned in a 3-0 defeat at a rampant Sevilla, losing for the first time in La Liga under coach Julen Lopetegui and missing the chance to capitalise on Barcelona's shock 2-1 defeat at Leganes.

The result leaves Madrid and Barcelona tied with 13 points after six matches. Madrid’s only previous setback in the league had been a draw at Athletic Bilbao in the fourth round.
