Wage board notification likely to be delayed further

July 03, 2011 02:34 am | Updated August 16, 2016 03:50 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Cabinet approval and issue of notification of the recommendations of the Wage Boards for journalists and other employees of the newspapers/news agencies are likely to get further delayed. The Labour Ministry has once again sought the opinion of the Law and Justice Ministry, in view of a petition filed in the Supreme Court challenging the recommendations.

Labour and Employment Secretary P.C. Chathurvedi said the Law Ministry had been asked for its opinion as the Labour Ministry had received a notice from the Supreme Court based on the petition.

“We are likely to receive the opinion early next week. Thereafter we will file the reply,” he said.

The recommendations with the concurrence of the labour, law and justice, information and broadcasting and corporate affairs ministries had already been forwarded to the Cabinet Secretariat.
