Resuming office after a 77-day forced leave, Central Bureau of Investigation Director Alok Verma on Wednesday reversed most of the transfers ordered by the interim agency chief, M. Nageswara Rao.
A day after the Supreme Court order restoring his position, Mr. Verma reached the agency headquarters around 10.45 a.m. He was received at the entrance by Mr. Rao, who was appointed as the acting CBI Director after Mr. Verma was stripped of his powers in the intervening night of October 23 and 24.
Seven transfer orders
Soon after Mr. Rao took over, he issued seven transfer orders, including those of the officials who were probing an alleged corruption case against the agency’s Special Director Rakesh Asthana and others.
Among the officials were Deputy Superintendent of Police A. K. Bassi, Deputy Inspector-General M. K. Sinha and Joint Director A. K. Sharma. On January 3, Mr. Rao transferred two more officials of the Joint Director rank.
