18 killed, 21 injured as bus from Bihar rams into tanker in U.P.’s Unnao 

According to local officials, the bus was carrying mostly migrant workers and their families from districts of Sheohar and East Champaran in Bihar

At least 18 people were killed and 21 injured on July 10 when a double-decker bus rammed into a milk tanker on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Unnao district.

The bus travelling from the Sheohar-Motihari region in Bihar to Delhi hit the milk tanker from behind near Garha village around 5.30 a.m. The force of the impact was such that the bus was pulverised and people were flung out from the bus.

According to local officials, the bus was carrying mostly migrant workers and their families from the districts of Sheohar and East Champaran in Bihar. All the injured have been rushed to nearby government hospitals. Out of the 21 people, three persons said to be in a critical condition were shifted to Lucknow.

District officials rushed to the site to extricate victims and transport the injured to hospitals. The district administration also issued helpline numbers (0515-2970767, 9651432703, 9454417447, 8887713617, 8081211289) for better co-ordination with victim’s families.

Extremely painful: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the incident as extremely painful. “The road accident in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh is extremely painful. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this. May God give them strength in this difficult time. I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured. Under the supervision of the State government, the local administration is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way,” said Mr. Modi. 

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed the local administration to leave no stone unturned in relief work. “The loss of life in a road accident in Unnao district is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved families. District administration officials have been instructed to reach the spot and speed up the relief work. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed souls in his feet and speedy recovery to the injured,” Mr. Adityanath posted on X (formerly Twitter). 

President Droupadi Murmu expressed grief over the lost lives and wished speedy recovery to those injured.

“The news of the death of many people in a road accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh is extremely sad. I express my deepest condolences to the family members of those who have become victims of such sudden death and wish for the speedy recovery of those injured,” she said in a tweet.
