U.P. woman killed for resisting rape

Two cases of grave violence against women were reported from Meerut and Shamli districts of western Uttar Pradesh on Monday. In one incident, four people tried to rape a woman in Shamli and killed her when she resisted; in another incident, a 100-year-old woman died after she was allegedly raped by a drunk youth in Meerut.

The incident of attempted rape and murder took place in Bhura village of Shamli district.

Station House Officer Dharamveer Singh said, “According to the complaint filed by the victim's brother, there was no one at home when four men barged in and tried to rape the woman. When she resisted they attacked her. She was seriously injured during the attack.”

In Jani village of Meerut, a 100-year-old woman died after being allegedly raped by a 24-year-old drunk youth on Sunday night.

The accused, Ankit Punia, alleged he was being framed by people in the village due to caste politics.
