Five intruders killed along India-Pak border in Punjab: BSF

The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained

The Border Security Force (BSF) said on Saturday that it had shot dead five "intruders" along Pakistan border in Tarn Taran district of Punjab. The intruders who are yet to be identified had narcotics, weapons and Pakistani currency on them.

The incident was reported in the early hours when the BSF personnel noticed suspicious movement violating the International Border.

“Upon being challenged to stop, intruders fired upon BSF troops who retaliated in self defence. Resultantly, 05 intruders were shot. Intensive search ops is underway,” a BSF spokesperson said.

Mahipal Yadav, Inspector General, BSF told reporters in Ferozepur that some suspicious movement was noted along the border around 11.30 pm on Friday. The operation continued for five hours with the intruders firing intermittently. The bodies were tracked after the firing stopped and were handed over to the police for investigation.

Mr. Yadav said nine packets of narcotics substance suspected to be heroin, weighing 9 kgs were found on the intruders. BSF also found one AK-47 rifle, four Beretta pistols, nine magazines and 136 live rounds of ammunitions, two mobile phones and Rs 610 Pakistani currency.

So far this year, 10 other Pakistani intruders have been apprehended along the Punjab border and over 300 kgs of heroin has been seized.

BSF is deployed along the 3,323 km Pakistan border adjoining States of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab and Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
