The Trinamool Congress on Sunday launched a campaign for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ahead of the September 25 by-election to the Assembly.

Although Ms. Banerjee did not personally attend any of the rallies and processions organised during the day, several senior leaders of the Trinamool were out on the streets canvassing for votes.

On Ms. Banerjee's absence at the rallies, State Sports Minister Madan Mitra said: “The name of Mamata Banerjee is sufficient to ensure success in any election.”

State Minister for Urban Development Firhad Hakim walked in a procession and went door to door in the Bhowanipore constituency during the day.

“People are saying that they have voted time and again for Mamata Banerjee. This time the enthusiasm is high among the voters,” Mr. Hakim said.
