Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader Dushyant Chautala, who has emerged as kingmaker in Haryana, will be meeting his 10 legislators in Delhi on Friday to decide which party to support in order to form the next government in the state, sources said on Thursday.

India, Pakistan sign Kartarpur pact

India and Pakistan on Thursday signed an agreement to operationalise the Kartarpur corridor that will facilitate pilgrims from India to visit the Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan. The agreement is valid initially for five years. India will hand over the list of pilgrims to Pakistan 10 days in advance and those granted permission to go may be informed only four days before the proposed date of travel.

Talks with NSCN-IM remain inconclusive

As the deadline to sign the final Naga peace accord nears, Naga interlocutor R.N. Ravi’s talks with the NSCN (National Socialist Council of Nagaland)-IM (Isak-Muivah) on Thursday remained inconclusive.

J&K Block Development Council polls: 217 Independents, 81 BJP members elected

Over 200 Independents were elected to the posts of chairperson in the first-ever Block Development Council (BDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir, with the BJP winning in 81 of the 310 blocks. The Congress, the National Conference and the PDP stayed away from the elections, the first to be held after the withdrawal of Article 370, that granted special status to the State.

India climbs 14 notches in ease of doing business ranking

In the latest ranking for countries in ease of doing business, the World Bank has placed India 63rd out of 190 countries — an improvement of 14 places from its 77th position last year. The country’s score improved from 67.3 last year to 71.0 this year, as per The Doing Business 2020 study, released on Thursday.

Boris Johnson to ask parliament for December 12 election

Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on October 24 that he was asking parliament to approve a national election to take place on December 12 as part of his efforts to ensure Britain leaves the European Union. Mr. Johnson said in a letter to Opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn that if the European Union offers Britain a Brexit delay to January 31 then he would seek to pass legislation to ratify his exit deal by November 6 and would make available “all possible time” to do so.
