The National Investigation Agency claimed on Tuesday that it had arrested a top Indian operative of the Bangladesh-based militant outfit Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Bengaluru.
Mohammed Jahidul Islam alias Kausar was picked up from his rented house near Ramanagara area. He is accused of the conspiracy to plant two bombs at Bodh Gaya in Bihar in January this year and the 2014 Burdwan blasts in West Bengal.
Some electronic devices and “traces” of explosives were found during a search of the house.
The NIA said in a release that 38-year-old Islam was the mastermind of the Bodh Gaya explosives case. It was on his directions that his close associate Mustafizur Rehman alias Shahin had arranged and assembled the bombs that were found on January 20 when the Dalai Lama was on a visit to the pilgrimage town. The bombs were later deactivated.
“He is the top leader of JMB in India and is wanted in the Burdwan blast case and in many other cases in Bangladesh also,” NIA said.
