Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday released former Union Minister and Congress leader S. Jaipal Reddy’s book Ten Ideologies: The Great Asymmetry between Agrarianism and Industrialism , brought out by Orient Blackswan, here in the presence of several political leaders.

Dr. Singh said the book, which offers a rich perspective on human history, shows that while religion, castes, colours are products of history, they cannot be accepted as a holistic reading of history. The book has brought out oneness in history, he added.

Mr. Reddy said tolerance is the essence of democracy, and called upon people to critically and unsparingly review his book.

Ashoka University Vice-Chancellor Pratap Bhanu Mehta and political scientist Neera Chandhoke also spoke on the occasion.

In the book, Mr. Reddy has discussed 10 major ideologies that have shaped the world: nationalism, democracy, liberalism, capitalism, evolutionary socialism, revolutionary socialism, feminism, environmentalism, nuclear pacifism and globalism.
