Several coaches of the Mumbai-Howrah Mail derailed, killing at least two people and injuring 20 others. Of the 18 coaches that derailed, 16 were passenger cars, one was a power car and another a pantry car. The accident occurred at 3.45 a.m. near Badabamboo, around 80 km from Jamshedpur, under the Chakradhatpur Division of South East Railway.

This is the fifth train accident in 2024, with the last major one being the Kanchenjunga Express derailment in Darjeeling, the hill station in West Bengal on June 2024, which left 10 people dead and dozens injured.
