The YSR Congress on Thursday petitioned Telangana Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary seeking disqualification of its legislator from Wyra in Khammam district, B. Madanlal, for defecting to Telangana Rashtra Samiti.
In the petition submitted to the Assembly Speaker, YSRC floor Leader Thati Venkateswarlu said Mr. Madanlal had voluntarily given up the membership of YSRC to join TRS in the presence of party president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and general secretary K. Keshava Rao on September 1. Copies of visual and print media on Mr. Madanlal’s joining TRS were also enclosed to the petition.
Mr. Venkateswarlu said Mr. Madanlal’s action of joining TRS after being election on YSRC ticket would attract the provisions of Clause 2 (1) (a) of the Tenth Schedule to the Constitution of India and he was liable to be disqualified as a Member of the Legislative Assembly. He requested the Speaker to disqualify Mr. Madanlal on the grounds of Anti-Defection Rules, 1985.
Meanwhile, Mr. Venkateswarlu along with Payam Venkateshwarlu, both YSRC legislators from Khammam district, refuted the reports that they were joining TRS. “We will continue in YSRC and have no intentions to switch over to any other party as being reported in a section of the media”, the two said speaking to reporters in Secretariat on Thursday.
They stated that they had been meeting the Chief Minister on works pertaining to their constituencies and sought to know whether it would be construed as their plan for defection.
