Youth attacked 8 year old girl with a blade near Khammam

A youth, suspected to be suffering from mental illness, attacked an eight-year-old girl with a blade inflicting grievous injuries on her neck in Yellendu town on Sunday.

The ghastly incident took place at LBS Nagar in the coal town on Sunday afternoon.

According to police sources, Shiva, a resident of LBS Nagar, allegedly pounced on Kusuma, 8, the daughter of a local kirana shop merchant, near her house in the afternoon.

He allegedly attacked the girl with a blade in broad daylight. The unsuspecting girl sustained deep wounds on her neck portion.

The assailant fled from the scene on noticing the passersby rushing to the spot on hearing the screams of the girl. The girl was first shifted to the government hospital in Yellendu from where she was referred to the district headquarters hospital.

Her condition is stated to be stable. The local police ruled out robbery as possible motive behind the gruesome attack.

The Yellendu town police have launched a detailed investigation into the case from all dimensions including "previous enmity" angle.
