Asserting that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) would continue its winning streak in the Lok Sabha elections, Chief Minister and TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday wanted the leaders and cadres to work hard to ensure that the party wrests all the 32 zilla parishads in the elections proposed to be conducted next month.

Addressing the extended general body meeting of the TRS at Telangana Bhavan here, Mr. Rao minced no words in stating that winnability alone would be criteria for the selection of candidates. Asking the elected representatives to carefully work on identifying the right candidates for the MPTC and ZPTC polls, the TRS chief said those who missed the bus in the last Assembly elections and those who lost narrowly would be accommodated in the ZP.

Towards this direction, he named former MLA Kova Laxmi as the ZP chairperson candidate from Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. “Laxmi lost the Assembly polls by mere 173 votes and its my duty to give her due representation,” he said adding that the party rank and file has to work with more commitment.

Role at Centre

In his over 150 minutes address to over 400 district level leaders, Mr. Rao spoke of how the TRS would play a key role in the next government in the Centre. “It is going to be coalition government and we are sure to get two or three ministerial berths in the next government. Without our support, the new government cannot be formed,” he was quoted as telling the leaders.

Speaking about the recognition for the leaders, who have stayed with the party in its good and bad times, the TRS chief said they would rehabilitated. He also cautioned the leaders not to indulge in internal bickerings.

More opportunities

He said by 2024 delimitation of constituencies would be taken up and that would give scope for giving representation to more people. He said once the posts of parliamentary secretaries was revived, some more would get a chance.

The Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to revamp the revenue administration. “I am going to take some tough decisions shortly,” he is understood to have said adding that certain powers vested with the revenue officials would now come to the government.

“I want the common man to get his grievance redressed in the revenue offices without spending a single paisa. It is a shame that unauthorised real estate ventures are coming up in the State. There is need to curb such activities,” he remarked.

Good governance

He referred to how the farmers were suffering because of the lopsided handling of the revenue records by the officials. “Due to corruption, the farmers are badly affected. People have given us a mandate to provide good governance and such corrupt practices will bring disgrace to us,” he observed.

The meeting was attended by TRS working president K.T.Rama Rao, Rajya Sabha members, former MPs and MLAs and corporation chairpersons.
